I used to have a problem with my social media usage. My husband and kids said I was addicted to the iPhone, and even called me “iPhone” at one point in my life to get my attention. I let the platforms use me, and it became consuming. Seeing polarized politics, views, and news articles in my feed literally sucked the life out of me, and consumed all my energy! I decided to announce that I’d be taking a social media break, and deactivated, cold turkey.

Platforms are censoring posts, comments, and videos for expressing opinions. That makes people feel voiceless. I am so excited to be part of a beta program for a new social media platform, which is setup similar to Facebook, making it so easy to use because of its familiarity. Unlike Facebook, this platform does not censor you (as long as you’re complying with the no nudity policy). This platform also pays users back half of their shares from advertising. This means that just by using the platform, and encouraging your family and friends to do the same, you can make a passive income! You’ll also get paid to like, comment, and share posts! Like Facebook/Instagram, there is a cap on the amount allotted per day to prevent spamming. I highly encourage you to read the community guidelines.

One thing I learned during my absence from social media was how valuable my time, and energy is. I didn’t want to waste it scrolling through newsfeeds. I learned how to use social media as a tool, instead of allowing it to consume me. Social media is a goldmine for business owners. I wanted to take advantage of that. I learned how to manage my time, and how to get the most out of what I post. One thing I did when reactivating my account was I started taking control over what I saw, and allowed to be absorbed by my subconscious. I unfollowed anything or anyone negative. Then, I turned off notifications for any groups that have had any negative posts. I didn’t leave the group so I can always return to it when I choose to look up news, and information. Ironically, I can recall joining Facebook at 17 years old because my best friend who was attending one of the recognized universities that Facebook allowed on its platform and sent me her one and only link that allowed me to create a profile. Comparing WebTalk to Facebook, it’s equivalent to wear Facebook was at in 2006 before it officially took off.
