My Skincare Routine Before & After Esthetics School

My skincare routine, and habits have changed a lot since I went to esthetics school. I learned so much, and was able to switch to healthier habits for my skin.

Everyone’s skin is different, and unique. I had some unhealthy skin habits prior to school, but I broke them and found new skincare habits that work better for my skincare goals now. I’ll show you exactly what I did prior to going to esthetics school, compared to what I’m doing now. This is what’s currently working for me. It’s not going to be the same as someone else’s skincare regimen. It won’t be the same as yours. I’m not putting down anyone that does currently have any of the habits or products I used to.

I used to use Neutrogena products. I used Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Skin Cleanser & Makeup Remover, and Neutrogena Hydroboost. There’s nothing wrong with Neutrogena if you like it. A lot of dermatologists recommend it. I personally prefer and use pharmaceutical, or professional skincare lines, and recommend it to my clients.

I used to only use a cleanser and moisturizer, and I only did my routine once a day at night. I was missing so many steps to my skincare routine! Now, I do my routine twice a day, in the morning, and in the evening. I double cleanse now. When I cleanse, and treat my face I always make sure to focus on my neck, and décolleté to prevent aging in those areas too. I’ve added an eye cream, serums, oils, lip treatment and toner to the routine. I also use a hand, and body cream so my entire body is treated.

I exfoliate 2-3x a week, when I’m not getting a mechanical form of exfoliating done like microdermabrasion. I love enzyme peels, peel pads, and I occasionally get chemical peels. I get monthly facials. I get body and back facials as needed.

Now, I use Vitamin C every single day because it has so many benefits, like brightening and tightening the skin. I use a masque weekly.

I wear sunscreen every single day, regardless of the weather because I know UVA comes through clouds, and windows. It’s even stronger through glass. I know that 80% of aging comes from the sun so I also carry my sunblock in my pocketbook. I have an extra bottle in the car as well which is always super convenient on weeks I get peels. I reapply every hour, or as needed.

I loved tanning so much, and was actively tanning when I started esthetics school with the mindset that it’s benefit outweighed the risk because it helped significantly with my depression. My tanning habits were brought up on the first day of school, after I filled out a consultation form. That was a losing battle for me with my teacher. I never tanned after that day. I learned so much about skin damage, and couldn’t voluntarily pay to age my skin any longer. I made the switch the sunless tanning. Sunless tanning has improved so much over the years. It’s not blotchy, and orange anymore. I get instant, natural results, without any damage.

Here’s some noticeable sun damage from before I went to school compared to after esthetics school . Fortunately, I caught it early enough to reverse some of the damage.

Another big change in my routine was my switch from daily foundation wear to only on occasion. Now, I use a BB cream, CC cream, or tinted SPF for my daily makeup. I do this because they have benefits for the skin.
